Arsacid dynasty; masters of cavalry warfare.
The Parthian Empire (247 BCE – 224 CE), founded by Arsaces I, revived Iranian independence after Alexander’s successors. The Parthians were expert horse-archers and masters of decentralized rule. Their confederation balanced powerful noble families with the authority of the King of Kings. They resisted the Roman Empire for centuries, established trade along the Silk Road, and helped shape early Iranian-Hellenistic culture. Notable rulers include Mithridates I (expander and reformer) and Mithridates II (the Great, organizer of diplomacy and trade).
